Researchers report that TNF-blocking drugs—Remicade, Humira, and Enbrel—pose significant and clinically important dermatological problems for patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
Of the nearly 300 patients involved in this study, 25 percent sought medical help from a dermatologist regarding Remicade and skin problems during the first two years of treatment. By comparison, only 13 percent of those taking a placebo pill sought attention for skin problems during that time. This shows that Remicade and related drugs can double the risk of skin problems .
The most common Remicade skin problems
* SKIN INFECTIONS were the most common dermatological complaint experienced by patients taking Remicade and related drugs during the Dutch study.
* ECZEMA was the second most common skin condition caused by Remicade in the study.
* DRUG-INDUCED SKIN ERUPTIONS were also common among those taking these rheumatoid arthritis drugs.

New evidence, published in May 2006 in the Journal of the American Medical Association, suggests that Remicade can triple the risk of skin cancer .
